Just as fashion designers use fabric to create drama and interest in their pieces I use glass, semi-precious stones, precious metals and rich fibers to create what I feel are small objects of art.  As with all of my work I put just as much time into the design of a piece as I do in the actual construction of the jewelry I create.

I make all of the glass beads (referred to as Lampwork Beads) in my creations.  My glass comes from Italy, Germany and some of it is also made here in the United States.  A mix of oxygen and propane gas is used to create a 2000 degree flame to melt the glass to start the design process.  I rarely draw a design prior to starting the bead making process.  Some beads (i.e. the smaller ones with no designs) called spacer beads take approximately 5 minutes to make.  But as one gets into the more complex beads they can take anywhere from 1 to 3 hours.  And unfortunately with the type of glass I use once one of these beads is started it cannot be put down until it is complete.  And some designs take anywhere from 1 to 10 trial beads before I am happy with the final product.  Each focal bead (except for spacer beads) is unique and therefore, there will never be two alike.
